A Brief History
Word of Life Australia was started in 1970, when Dave Hillis and Dick Andes started evangelistic, local church, and camp ministries in New South Wales. A camp property was later purchased in Wisemans Ferry, which also became the ministry headquarters. A Bible College programme was also operated on the camp property from 1976 to 2004. In 2005, the property in Wisemans Ferry was sold, and the ministry headquarters was relocated to Sydney’s Hills District, to facilitate a broadening effort to local churches and evangelism programmes in the greater Sydney region and beyond.
Word of Life Australia is a Ministry that has worked for 35 years to reach the young people of this beautiful country with the gospel of Jesus Christ. We believe that communicating the gospel and discipleship are two priority commands in the Bible. Word of Life offers a variety of ministry opportunities in evangelism and discipleship. Word of Life exists to fulfill a great need in the lives of youth by means of activities such as: camps, sports marathons, special presentations, conferences, leadership seminars, and the Bible Club programs. Our goal is to provide clear solutions to a generation that is bombarded with a world that desires to confuse and destroy. Word of Life is dedicated to work and serve as a non-profit organization. Its financial resources are supplied by voluntary donations from individuals, churches, and businesses.
Word of Life, International was founded by Jack Wyrtzen:
Jack Wyrtzen
At Schroon Lake, New York: On Wednesday, April 17 at about 9:30 a.m., at age 82, the man God who used to found and direct the worldwide ministries of Word of Life Fellowship for 50 years went to be with the Lord.
Saved at age 19 through the testimony of a friend, Jack turned from leading a dance band, and began a Bible study with a handful of friends. In later years, Jack would often quote the following Scripture verse that characterized his life after his conversion:
. . . If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (II Cor. 5:17)Type the text here
