I have being serving as the Director of Word of Life Australia since 2010.

My passion is to reach today’s youth through evangelism, discipleship and leadership training. In Australia, we have the great privilege of sharing the gospel of Christ in public high schools. The Lord has allowed us to combine this opportunity with our KICKOFF evangelistic outreaches. Working with school scripture teachers and local youth pastors, we minister to thousands of young people every year. Also our goal is to help local churches develop ongoing, vibrant youth ministries.

My parents migrated to Australia when I was eight years old; I have had the privilege of living in Australia for the past 35 years. I received Christ as my personal Saviour at the age of 13 when I understood that I was lost in my sins and in need of Jesus. Unfortunately, I had no discipleship in my life; during my teens, I drifted away and had many scars because of wrong choices that I had made. I rejoice that the grace of God reached me and I comprehended the great doctrine of forgiveness. From that moment, the Lord placed a great passion in my heart; I had a new vigor to serve and surrender my life totally to God.

I had the privilege of attending WOL Argentina to study for four years which were the best years of my life. In my third year of college, I met my beautiful wife Silvia. We have been serving with WOL for the past 25 years.

“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” – Isaiah 41:10

Our passion in ministry is teaching and preaching the Word of God. In Australia we have the great privilege of sharing the Gospel of Christ in public high schools. The Lord has allowed us to combine this opportunity with our KICKOFF evangelistic outreaches. Working with school scripture teachers and youth pastors, we minister to thousands of young people every year. Sharing the Word of God to both the young people and to the more mature is a great honour.

In our ministry we hold leadership training throughout the year and hold our Leadership Development Conferences in February. On a great many of Sundays, one will find me preaching the Word of God at a local church somewhere in Australia. In 2013, I became a board member of Word of Life PNG to “coach and cheerlead” their new and growing team. I travel to PNG a few times a year to assist the team in ministry and with their administration needs. I also assist Randy Gilmore, the WOL Pacific RIM Director with admimistraion needs. For the past few years I have been traveling to the Philippines to teach at the WOL Bible College.

Having eight years of perfect attendance in Sunday School in my teenage years was the perfect setting to hear Harry Bollback preach on Hebrews 2:3. I was challenged to accept Jesus Christ as my personal Savior or to get out of the church. I praise the Lord that on July 19, 1975, I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.

During my year (1977) at the Word of Life Bible Institute, I answered the call to serve the Lord full-time. I finished my education at Citadel Bible College in Ozark, Arkansas, where I met Lynda, who became my wife on 16 January 1982. We were accepted to serve the Lord with Word of Life International in 1983 and arrived in Australia in 1986. During the past 28 plus years of ministry, Lynda and I have seen the Lord’s hand in our lives as we ministered as Dean of Students and lecturer in Australia’s Bible College and served as the camp director. In 2005 the Lord led the Australian team to sell the camp property and move the ministry out to the people!

I accepted Jesus Christ to be my personal Saviour after my public high school teacher shared the gospel with me. This same teacher has been and still is a godly influence in my life. After attending Pensacola Christian College for two and one half years, I transferred to Citadel Bible College and graduated with a major in Bible/Missions Education. It was during a missions conference at my home church in Memphis, Tennessee, that I knew that God wanted me to serve Him full-time overseas. When Jim and I met at Citadel, we both knew that God had called us to serve Him overseas. We are grateful that God called us to serve Him with Word of Life in Australia and Papua New Guinea. Our son, Jeremiah, was born in 1984 and I home-schooled him through high school. Jeremiah and his wife, Jess, have two beautiful daughters named Bella and Brooklyn and one wonderful son named Hudson.

Mary Almarza

I joined Word of Life, Australia staff June 2011 and am involved in all areas of the ministry.

Acts 20:24 – But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.

Mary was born in Santiago, Chile. At the age of eleven she migrated to Australia with parents and brother.

Mary’s mother was reached by a family whom were doing door to door evangelism. While accompanying her mother to church, at the age of eighteen, she was able to clearly understand the Gospel and received Christ as her personal Savior. She dedicated her life by the testimony of missionaries visiting her church and took a step of faith to prepare herself for the Lord’s ministry. She attended Word of Life Bible Institute Argentina during 1988 to 1990.

After graduation the Lord directed her to full time ministry in Word of Life Chile, were she served as Secretary to the Field Director for 20 years.

Our ministry consists of creating opportunities and platforms within the community and the Church to reach the youth with the Gospel of Christ. We run big events, speak at school seminars, and we will be creating future camps. Some of our events are KICKOFF and Battle Zone.

I was born in a loving Christian family that taught me Christian disciplines from a young age, my father especially was a big example of Christian Love in the way he treated people and cared for them. My salvation experience starts when I was in year 6 and I was at my church youth program on Sunday. My teacher at the time, Martin Spies, was explaining that the relationship with Christ had to be a personal one and an individual decision so no one could make it for me. At his time I realised he was my Lord and Saviour and I wanted that relationship. God continued to fashion me into the man he wanted.

When I left school, I had a passion for missions but didn’t know how to go about it and wanted to offer something practical, so I started training as a mechanic. God moved me out of that line 3 year later after I realised, I was moving away from my God so I decided to wait on him and what he would have in my life. A year later I had worked in many different jobs as different things when God brought the right people into my path and me into theirs. This was when my director, of Word of Life Australia, asked me to be an intern for Word of Life. That year I saw God use everything that He did in my life to send out the Gospel and after that year it was clear to me that I needed to continue in the ministry. I have now been working with Word of Life for just over 7 years and am looking forward to seeing His ministry flourish constantly.

I grew up in a Christian home with Godly parents pouring into my life. At age 5, I came to know Christ as my personal Savior. But being so young and unwise, I did not develop that relationship with my Lord. As a result, I turned away from the Lord. Between ages 9-12, I was very bitter from past hurts and hardened my heart towards God. I knew that I was wrong, but I was too ashamed to seek help. So I continued going down the wrong path. I ran as far away from the Lord as I could but thankfully He didn’t let me get far. I was so convicted but I was too afraid to change.

Until later that summer, I attended a summer camp with my cousin. On the Wednesday of that week there, the pastor got up and started to share what it meant to be saved and how we are offered salvation. He shared Ephesians 2:8-9, which has become one of my life verses. During his message, I broke down in tears. I saw that I had been running from God and I knew I needed to change. I prayed that God would forgive me for running from Him and I prayed that He would use me in any way He chose. After that, I felt so relieved. It was like an actual weight was lifted from me. I began studying God’s Word for myself and trying to grow. I join a girl’s small group and got some really good and Godly counsel.

Since then, I have felt God calling me to the full-time ministry on the mission field. I have attended Word of Life Bible Institute, which is where I met Scott. Scott shared with me his heart for the youth ministry in Australia and God began to soften my heart towards the same ministry. I am very excited to join my husband in serving the youth of Australia by proclaiming the Gospel and showing each one the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

I had the privilege of first meeting Word of Life in 2014 when they came to our church and ran a KICKOFF for our youth group. In 2018, I joined Word of Life as an intern and began my degree in ministry. When I finished my internship, I had the privilege of becoming a student leader and coordinator of Word of Life’s video promotion and social media department. Now my goal is to continue serving the Lord in ministry wherever He leads.

I was brought up in a Christian home and gave my heart to Christ when I was four years old. I was a shy and quiet kid who said very little. My family is Christian but our home had its difficulties. One member of our family had a disability which placed a huge stress on the entire family. Nevertheless, my parents stayed close to the Lord through the easy and hard times which really made a huge impact on my spiritual growth and relationship with Christ. It wasn’t until I was around seventeen that I became more serious about God in my life.

When I graduated school in 2013, I had no idea what I wanted to do. I decided to study a Certificate III in Health Care Assistance and I became an accredited swimming coach which I taught for three years. It was around this time that I was still deciding on whether to join Word of Life. I was torn between leaving my coaching job and taking on an internship with Word of Life. I contemplated and prayed about it for over five years, until Word of Life moved north from Sydney to Lakewood in 2018. Since then, I have moved to Lakewood and have had the privilege of serving with Word of Life. My faith and relationship in Christ has being growing since then. Besides giving my heart to Christ, serving with Word of Life has been the best decision of my life.

We met in Word of Life Chile, serving God as part of the volunteer team during the summer camps. We went to study at Word of Life Bible Institute in Argentina during the years 2008 to 2010. We got married on March 6th, 2010 and God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters Antonella (born in 2011) and Micaela (born in 2014). We believe that God can use young people to impact their generation with the Gospel. That’s why our passion is working alongside pastors and youth leaders. Providing resources, training, discipleship, and counselling. Our goal is to reach the youth with the Gospel, to see them growing in faith and to develop godly youth leaders for the next generation.

“For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.” Philippians 3:20 (KJV)

The Word of Life ministry is very important for me and my whole family because through this ministry my entire family was able to meet Jesus, through a summer camp that my sister attended. Thanks to God’s plan I was born in a Christian home, I grew up very close to the Word of Life ministry serving God through camps and various ministry activities in which God used to make the most important decisions of my life. In 2009, God took me to study at the Word of Life Bible Institute in Argentina, where I continued to grow in the knowledge of the Lord. I am convicted that God wants to use our family to reach our generation and impact other families with the Gospel.

I am privileged to serve Word of Life Australia as the events coordinator, my ministry includes planning and managing evangelistic events, including a large traveling event called KICKOFF. KICKOFF is a mobile ministry seeking to provide churches with a fun platform to bring in students with the purpose of hearing the gospel, I currently travel with our team along the east coast of Australia. I am also privileged with being a scripture seminar presenter. Here in Australia, we are able to teach scripture in public schools, on numerous occasions, I along with the rest of our staff are able to support school chaplains or local resident teachers with scripture seminars.

I was saved at an early age when my parents started taking me to church, at that time I realised that I was a sinner in need of a Savior and that there was one available, Jesus. So at five years old I asked Jesus to come into my life and save me from my sins. From then on I grew up in a christian home with two fantastic parents and went to church every time the doors were open, I had always felt a calling to serve the Lord but was pretty apathetic until I was about sixteen. It was then by going on a mission trip with my church that the Lord really started to challenge me and show me that I really didn’t understand much about the bible or my faith, despite growing up in church. So in order for me to grow in my faith and truly understand why I believe what I believe, I went to the Word of Life Bible Institute in Florida and then New York. It was through these two years that the Lord opened my eyes to see how beautiful the Gospel is and how it impacts every area of my life, along with giving me a passion for working youth and the local church.

It was during a missions conference my first year at the BI that I was confronted with Matthew 28:19, the fact that the Lord calls us to Go and make disciples of ALL nations, I was then given the opportunity that if I went and completed the second year I could serve with WOL as a missionary in the Cross Cultural Internship or “CCI” program. At this time the Lord started to burden me with the country of Australia.
